Why Mainstream Music Is So Bad?(Rant)

In all honesty, no matter how much people try to justify it by calling it 'subjective', it does not change the fact that modern mainstream music is actually just another piece of trash in this era along with many other things.From music to lyrics to music videos, all are are pretty forgettable and annoying in this era and it is a world problem.But let me ask you first,What is Music?How is Music?What Happened to Music?

Q.1 What is Music?

Ans. Well from a theoretical point, music is a series of vocal sounds or instrumental sounds or both that form a series of melodious notes and beautiful harmony with the expression of different emotions.But when we look from a logical point, we cannot really give a meaning to music.Music is something more than just the above theoretical definition.Music is probably one of the most powerful and unique gifts that humans have ever received!It has the ability to change the human emotions on the go within minutes based on just the type of melody or notes used or the velocity of the vocals.Music is so powerful that it can change the mindset of even the most lost or depressed person in the world and the way it impacts our imagination is even more shivering.Listening to great music and closing our eyes allows us to create these images in our minds that are beyond our imagination.We create these imaginary worlds with different properties in our mind and then get lost in it which frees our mind specially in this stressful era.Music can make a person Cry without even any story to tell.Its just that the sounds speak for themselves.Music makes us happy, it makes us sad, it makes us energetic, it gives us chills, it scares us, it unnerves us, it creates an atmosphere, it can be ominous, it can be mysterious, etc.Basically it is one of the most important part of society.

Q.2 How is Music?

Ans. Music may be blessing to us but even a bigger blessing is the ability to play music and the ability to sing.Both of these things are a god given that not everyone has.Playing an instrument is a thing that a lot of people want to do but they just can't because they just do not have it in them or they just are not consistent with learning it.The ability to play music for the people is an art that is unique.A masterful musician controls his/her audience both physically and mentally.A master musician goes deep into the heart of the people and grabs their emotions.That is how true music is made.

Q.3 What happened to Music?

Ans. Well a lot of things happened.Money happened, technology happened, dumb listeners happened, competition happened, speedy production of songs happened, greed happened, catchy beats happened, item songs happened, love happened, trash lyrics happened, remakes happened, trash remixes happened, etc(I bet more things happened but that much is enough).Back in the old days, music was something that musicians used to spend a lot of time to make.They used to have several retakes for just one song so that the final product is perfect.Quality and talent was the main concept behind music and real instruments were used and more hard work was required.The main thing to note is that back in the day, the problem was not that if the musicians want retakes.Infact, the problem was that they had to do retakes because they had no other options and most importantly they had all the time in the world to do retakes for their songs.They needed extreme training and years of experience to reach a top status.But now things have changed.With the recent explosion in technological advancement, it is now much more easier to make mainstream music.Singers just record the chorus of a song once and just use the same recording in loop to repeat it after each verse instead of singing it again which saves time.It is so much more easy to edit music and cut paste any part of a song wherever and however without any issues.Although it is very helpful, when overused it takes away the feelings of the song.Probably the biggest problem in modern times is the use of auto-tune, a method to change or correct the pitch of a singer.Auto-tune maybe very important and when used properly it can actually add some uniqueness to a song but so called musicians abuse auto-tune so much that it completely removes the soul of a song and makes it sound like a dead and rotten corpse.And since music has become just a money making machine at this point, nobody ever really thinks about how much they have ruined music using this auto-tune.Singers who can barely sing are getting popular using pitch perfecting technology while actual indie artists who have worked hard get left behind and do not get the recognition which demotivates them.This is one of the reason that although indie singers and musicians are out there, they are forced to use technology and are forced to copy these false musicians or else they will not make it.Very few artists remain that stick to their talents and their efforts regardless of the aggressive, competitive and toxic environment in the music industry.The misuse of the modern technology to spam absolutely garbage songs onto the internet clearly shows the aggressive business model behind music.Artists are spamming songs every two days now compared to back in the day when an artist used to focus on an album for more than a year.The music, the beats and lyrics used in songs now are completely wack,generic,corny and repetitive which makes my ears bleed.It is not the fault of electronic music at all since I have listened to tons of EDM and Trap music(a surprisingly dead genre) that are very melodious and chilling.It is the fault of egotistical song makers really who just want that pay check.Even Live performances of most artists are absolutely wack where they just play the studio song in the background and just lip-sync over it because they cannot sing and when they do sing, people see through their horrible and out of tune voice.But I do not really feel sorry for the people who spend $300 to go to a concert only to watch a guy or a girl lip-sync like what is the point lol?Western Music has gone to shit(The fact that Taki Taki is popular song makes me lose faith in humanity), Rap music has been taken over by mumble rappers(Are people not tired of all these Lil this Lil that mumblers?).Songs are all about gold,money,fast cars,flexing of wealth,brand sponsers,women along with some shitty beat that may or may not be catchy.And what can I even say about Bollywood music except that it is filled with either awful remakes of old songs or item songs that objectify the whamen or love songs about unable to move on after all they are inspired so much by the bad side of western music.And then there are Punjabi songs that are just creepy lol.Yep some of them have some catchy beats but that is it and there music videos are again about blind love.Pretty much all Punjabi songs have the same music video, a guy is travelling on the streets and then he suddenly sees a really beautiful whaman and falls in love with her while commenting how hot they are and then he starts stalking the girl like a pervert and the girl instead of slapping him or going to the police station falls in love the guy lmao(lolololololx).If only people did a little digging and if only they had the ability to go deep into good music.I mean there is a reason that our Indian classical music is treated as irrelevant now which is just sad.People just look at the surface of Indian classical and assume that it is just slow and boring but they never dig deep into it and they never realise the richness that is hidden in Indian classical.I mean our ragas are just mind opening but yet they are ignored.Same is the state of Western music as the real instrumental orchestras are losing relevancy and melodic music is losing its ground.I mean people should listen something like Hans Zimmer or Radiohead.I mean just listen to their collaboration song 'Ocean Bloom' by clicking here and get lost in its beauty!This song will change your mindset and will give you chills and it will make you feel lighter.You feel as if you are in some other dimension where you are completely free and when the song will finally end, you will realise that how much mainstream music now days is a mess.It also sucks that most of the good music that I listen to do not even have 100k views on YouTube while garbage songs are hitting 1 Billion Views.And I do not even want to talk about K-Pop because it is the most overrated and generic music I have ever heard and K-Pop fans are one of the biggest cancer besides corona virus and Tik Tok.
